Walking therapy is helpful for people who wish to use therapy for development, inspiration and reflection. It is largely the same psychotherapy/counselling, same fee and session time, but we meet at a pre-arranged location on Putney Heath, Wimbledon Common or Richmond Park, instead of in the consulting room.
The first session will be in the consulting room, to discuss whether walking therapy will be right for you, and to clarify the practical arrangements concerning meeting place, clothing and wet weather plans.
Walking and talking can be really useful for those who wish to use the open air, and presence of another, to reflect on current concerns, as well creating an environment that promotes growth and development.
On a physical level, walking decreases the stress hormones such as cortisol and increases endorphins, which are the body’s natural feel good chemicals, and when they are released your mood is boosted naturally. These chemicals work together with the natural environment and sense of space, to make you feel good.
